about our candles
All of our candles are hand poured and made in small batches.
Our beeswax is filtered to remove any debris that could potentially clog the wick.
Due to the nature of hand pouring candles, each and every candle is unique. Expect tiny differences.
Ingredients
- 100% Natural Beeswax. Locally harvested; eco-conscious.
- 100% Cotton, Square-Braided wick
Why beeswax?
- 100% natural, eco-conscious, safe and non-toxic.
- Beeswax is the only naturally occurring candle wax in the world.
- Beeswax radiates a brighter light and burns longer than any other candle wax.
- It is a natural ionizer, meaning it can help to remove toxins from the air when burned. This is perfect for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, and/or have sensitivities to strong scents.
Candle Care & Burning Tips
- Candle Safety: Always trim the wick to ¼ inch before each burn. Burn within sight. Keep away from children and pets. Keep away from flammable objects, and wind gusts. Do not burn more than 4 hours at a time. Only burn candles on fire-resistant surfaces. Neither seller nor manufacturer are responsible for misuse.
- Wick Safety. It is important to trim the wick of your candle to ¼" before each burn as not doing this can impact the lifespan of your candle, and the overall safety of your candle vessel while the candle is burning. If not properly trimmed, the wick may not light, or the flame may be too high.
- Burn Time. For safety purposes, it is recommended that you do not burn a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Melt pool. On the first burn, we highly recommend you wait until a full melt pool is achieved across the top of the candle before blowing out the candle. This will help to ensure that your candle will burn evenly throughout its lifespan, and will avoid tunneling.
- Candle Lifetime. For safety purposes, please be aware that your candle’s life has come to an end once it is down to the last ¼” of the wax.
- Reuse the remaining wax! You can always reuse the remaining wax to make wax melt pieces or for other DIY-beeswax projects.
Wet Spots and Wax Shrinkage
- Any potential "wet spots" visible on our 8oz jars are mainly cosmetic and has no effect on how your candle will burn. They occur when wax pulls away from the glasswares' surface, especially during colder weather.
- Pure beeswax which we use, shrinks after it has cooled. When the temperature changes, beeswax slightly pulls away from the sides of the jar. This can happen during curing, shipping, and storing the candle, and preventing it is impossible.
Bloom
- Over time, 100% pure beeswax will develop a whitish film called bloom. This is a natural process of oils rising to the surface of the candles. To remove, warm the candle with your hands. The heat of your hand can warm up your beeswax candle enough, and then take a soft cloth to polish off the bloom. Once removed, bloom will eventually come back in a few days or so. Bloom has no effect on how your beeswax candle will burn.
How to fix a candle that is tunneling
Tunneling is when your candle hasn't burned from edge-to-edge, forming this circular 'tunnel' around the wick and down through the core of the candle. It is an extremely common issue, but good candle burning practices will help prevent it from happening.
If your candle has already tunneled, there is a quick fix. Use tinfoil! By using tinfoil, you can melt down the edges of wax with heat from the candle by redirecting that heat back to the wax instead of out of the container. For a fresh start, follow the steps below:
- Before lighting the candle, trim the wick down to a ¼” height to remove any mushrooms.
- Cover the top of the candle with tinfoil (aluminum foil).
- Cut an opening on the top roughly 1″ wide, or small enough that tinfoil remains above the wax shelf.
- Light the candle, keep an eye on it and allow it to burn for 3-4 hours.
- Once the edges of wax has melted, and a full melt pool is visible, carefully remove the foil and extinguish the candle.
